What to pack?

Purpose

Mountainbiking is an outdoor sport often performed in rough terrain in remote places. A lot of unforeseen things can spoil your ride…

The weather may change, you might have a flat or another mechanical fault… While in summer, close to your car this is not a big deal, the situation dramatically changes in shoulder season far away from anywhere!

It is therefore a good idea to reflect on the ride you have planned and pack a few things that might help you save the day (and prevent a long hike back)!

Murphy´s law says that whatever you bring to a ride you will not need. So make sure to pack the whole workshop and closet and you are safe! 😉

Packing Lists

We try to provide a list of things that have proven to be useful on tour and we discriminate between three ride categories:

  • Short ride in sub-mountainous areas: low risk of sudden weather change, short distances to towns, etc.
  • Long alpine ride: potential of sudden weather change (thunderstorm, snow&cold), long return from remote areas
  • Multi-day ride: may require food, spare clothes, ticking, charger for phone,…

Protective Gear

Always wear a helmet when biking!

There is no excuse not to! Modern helmets are light and well-ventilated. The potential consequences of head-injuries are very severe!

A backpack with a back-protector may prevent high-consequence spine injuries.

Knee- and elbow protection are also recommended for trail biking. There are many light and comfortable options on the market.
